Hi, I’m Dillon with Social Media Top Team. We help business owners grow their business to the next level by leveraging social media, email and high performance marketing strategies.

Ok, we’re asked to speak at various business events and we often teach business branding strategies. And one of the questions that we get asked a lot by business owners is ‘What are some of the best business branding strategies to grow my small business and why should I use it in my social media marketing?’

Well here’s our definition of branding for your business: branding is the sum total of all of the emotions, memories, feelings, and experiences that your customers and prospective customers have with your company.

To use it in your social media marketing, to be effective your branding must be strong, you must have a well defined strategy, your expertise and message MUST be clear. Or you’ll get no results.

For example, many years ago there was only one local market. If you wanted soup, you simply went to the market and bought some soup. Then came supermarkets and they carried 6 different types of soup. If you didn’t know the other brands, you’d most likely go with Campbell’s. “Mmm…Mmm good!”

Remember people buy brands not products and services. A brand promises the same positive consistent experience every time. So you can buy with confidence.

Ok so, the internet is the same way. When the internet was new, there weren’t many companies on the internet. So it's easy for us to make a buying decision. Yet now there are actually millions of companies on the internet locally, nationally and internationally. All competing for local markets right here in the US! So now branding is more important online than even offline!

Jerry Garcia said it best.

No discussion of business branding strategies would be complete without addressing ‘the 2 arguments’. In business, you must win 2 arguments:

1) The logical argument

2) The emotional argument

1) Your value proposition is how you win the logical argument. You must build a compelling case for your business like an attorney would. A case built on facts, direct evidence (various forms of proof, like case studies, product/service comparison charts, whitepapers) “character witnesses” (with your client testimonials, 3rd party endorsements) and more. The goal is to make your value “self evident” to your target demographic. “Self Evident” is the key. Because your prospects must draw this simple conclusion that, “I’d have to be an absolute fool to do business with anyone else except you regardless the price.”

That’s why our motto is ‘Market hard…Sell easy’

2) Branding is how you win the emotional argument. One of your goals for your Business branding strategies is to link your brand to the emotions, the memories, the feelings, and the positive experiences that your customer has when buying your products or services.

Effectively branding your business also means linking the overall brand for your business, product or service to your logo. This is very important because your logo serves as your brand anchor in the minds of your customers. Your logo is a POWERFUL business branding strategy that SHOULD trigger in an emotional response in your target market that builds and supports your brand.

You must think of everything (every email, web site, phone call, voice message, post card, survey, smile, etc.) as an opportunity to promote your brand to improve your customer’s experience with your company, improve your customer satisfaction and to ingrain the knowledge that you are the best value.

Now when you effectively win ‘the 2 arguments’, your business has the coveted “WOW!” factor. This “WOW!” factor is what induces your target market to buy your products and services at FULL price and buy QUICKLY.

I wanted to share this with you before we go. An accounting firm was in attendance at one of our speaking engagements, and they were so impressed by what we shared about business branding strategies that they had it made it into a plaque and hung it on the wall with other statements from Robert Kiyosaki and I think Richard Branson and others. And this hangs in a prominent position in their office for all their accountants and clients to see.

And it simply says, “Branding is the sum total of all of the emotions, the feelings and memories that the client has with your company's product or service”, and I'm not sure who that author is.
